The music of Ivory Coast is also great. The nation embraces life and the people are full of joy. See the video below, it will lift your spirit. The child is very cute. The song is inspired by "Zangalewa" [Cameroonian song]. "Waka Waka" by Shakira was also inspired by "Zangalewa".
Beautiful Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire - Courtsey of worldpoliticsblog.wordpress.com
My favorite music from Côte d’Ivoire is Coupé-Décalé. Coupé-Décalé was pioneered by the late Stephane Doukouré (a.k.. "Douk-Saga") during the post-2002 militaro-political crisis in Côte d'Ivoire. It reflects the aspirations of a large section of Ivorian youth. Coupé-Décalé is a very percussive style featuring African samples, deep bass, and repetitive, minimalist arrangements.
Lyrically, Coupé-Décalé is about happiness, expressing daily life in Ivorian society, and also gives an insight into the political situation of the country. [wiki]
The nation has also produced international stars in the music industry like Dobet Gnahore.
Below is a playlist of music from Côte d’Ivoire. It is mainly Coupé-Décalé.
